the joy of writing
wislawa szymborska
contrary to her own name she herself puts syllables to good use
ths if u still read my blog, and remember a conversation we once had about what makes a poem a good poem, (and we had no answer but we agreed that we could tell which ones caused nausea ad nauseum), i've been rereading her these days and i just feel her poems are good (of course the nobel committee did not wait for my judgement on the matter and awarded her the damn thing rather precipitously).
she does not say anything extraordinary but mentions ordinary things that cross our minds but are never expressed or solidified, granted, in a poetic manner. her writing is not flowery, it is curt, brief and powerful. take, for instance, these lines
Is there then a world
where I rule absolutely on fate?
A time I bind with chains of signs?
An existence become endless at my bidding?
The joy of writing.
The power of preserving.
Revenge of a mortal hand.
ths, why didn't you 'forget' the book with me? :)
