what is up with the blogging world or my immediate blogging world? everybody's passing go and going to facebook (including moi) to satisfy social cravings/immense curiosity/desires to close unclosed chapters of the past. or to open closed chapters of the past. i wanted to open one of those. took a peak. back to the gray choueifat classroom with chipped tables and dripping airconditioning. back to the cringing teacher facing a volley of pure venomous choueifat-ism. i thought to myself ok you're a grown-up now so are all of you so talk let's see the bullies the meeks the nerds the budding sociopaths and those on the fringes of our crumbling classroom, let's face each other in this virtual world in the adult world.
ok. if ever there were an experiment to determine if people change after the age of 14 this would be it. put them back in that classroom and see.
it was pure Lord of the Flies
a smear of bullyi-ism here
racism there
an insecurity there
an ignoring there
a pat on the back here
to be fair i had longer conversations with some of them than any old school day
but it was the same feeling as the one i would have everyday under the glacial winds of the AC wearing that ugly gray skirt and sporting the gigantic fringe and ginormous eye-glasses
with a sinking feeling it came to me that people don't change
put them back in context and, 20 years later, they revert back to form
