what did he say?!

(pic courtesy of LO whose blogtributions are always welcome)
ok ok ok so we didn't win but we deserved to win.
but - what the hell did that italian say to deserve that spectacular header???!
this is copied from le monde:
"On ne saura probablement jamais les mots prononcés par Materazzi, mais ils ont été de trop pour Zidane. L'issue de cet accrochage n'est à la gloire de personne, ni de Zizou qui sort par la petite porte, ni de Materazzi, en provocateur honteux qui restera dans l'histoire comme l'homme qui a fait expulser Zidane en finale de Coupe du monde."
translating: "we will probably never know the words spoken by Materazzi, but they were too much for Zidane. This tiff is not glorious for anyone, neither for Zidane who exited from the small door, nor for Materazzi, shameful provoker who will remain in history as the man who had Zidane expelled from the World Cup final."

funny how you put it :)
what did the italian say to deserve this. he didn't deserve this regardless. zizou woti min 3ayni. i was so sad when he did that.
deserved to win. the italians didn't play their best today, that's true, but come on that penalty shot was pure luck. also throughout, the Italian team is better, i think it was fair.

i'm v. upset! i don't want him to be remembered as the french player who headed someone and robbed them of glory
By
rouba, at Sunday, July 09, 2006 6:12:00 PM
and maybe he decided fuck it this guy deserves it and took a stand no matter what.
jacques chirac and the french are all thanking him and he still is one of the best players in the world.

i think it was either a racial or a religious remark
By
rouba, at Sunday, July 09, 2006 6:17:00 PM
oh rouba a guy like zidane who is genuinly a classy player, will always be remembered as such.
every player slips... the media will surely talk about this a bit, but don't worry, I don't think it will stain his art...
while playing there is a lot of badmouthing and a lot of word exchange. It doesn't have to be racist or religious. actually I doubt it is.

you can think of football as a sport.
for zidane, it is an art.
no one can handle the ball the way he does.
Plein de grace, simplement.
It is like the ball is an extension of his body.
I will remember what happened as an unfortunate incident . he is human after all.
I won't comment on how the italians played. Actually, they didn't play. they were acting all along.
aiii, mama mia i fell again!

it's le monde of course they're gonna say that. check out the french coach's comment on the FIFA website.
like _z said, don't be upset, these things happen all the time and he will always be remembered as the great player he is. it's a mistake on both parts and i think he was being attacked because he was a threat on the italians. they didn't play at all? well they did have a long down period for sure but again paul, throughout the world cup they have been a better team.
rouba, zizou actually did the same thing before when playing against saudi arabia. i doubt it's a racial comment at all. can't be. just macho crap that takes place on the field. he should've reacted that way. the guy can say whatever but to actually hit him like that!!

"C'est dommage pour Zidane, c'est une triste fin de carrière. Mais il restera quand même parmi les meilleurs joueurs de l'histoire du football, avec Maradona et Pelé"
et c'est vrai so don't be sad :)

c'est clair ce que Materazzi a dit maintenant, et évidemment c'était la seule chose qu'il a pu faire pour gagner son coupe du monde.
i too have felt ill all day.
