genocide?

israel has bombed four bridges in the north, all in christian areas
one of the bridges lies in the area of Ma'amaltein.
Ma'amaltein is the red light district of lebanon and is full of brothels.

Israel seems to have inside info though, as Hezbollah, to everyone's surprise, apparently have headquarters there, squished between two swarming brothels. why else would Ma'amaltein be bombed?

genocide, as per wikipedia, is: "Acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group."

let's see..
- entire lebanese civilian villages and towns have been bombed to death, including buildings crawling with civilians, for example Cana

- the nation of lebanon is under siege and food, water, medications and fuel are being blocked. for the first time in history, ( other than when the locusts came to lebanon post WWI), people are dying of hunger and thirst.

-roads, bridges and electricity stations have been destroyed everywhere, north and south, left and right

why is Chavez one of the few in this world who have dared mention the word Genocide??

when the nation of Lebanon has been hit deep in its civilian throes by israeli bombs, is under siege from all angles known to man, has had its nascent infrastructure pulverized in its entirety, and is shouldering people now dying of hunger and thirst because of the Israeli blockade, why is the world not talking GENOCIDE yet?

shall we wait until every living soul in my nation is either bombed to death, starved to death, parched to death, or driven to death by suicidal desperation, to maybe consider it?

hmmmmm. post-humous genocide. like the post-humous oscars.

THIS IS GENOCIDE AND THE WORLD, MOST NOTABLY THE UNITED STATES, (EXCEPT FOR CHAVEZ), IS NOT ONLY IN DENIAL, BUT IS MISERABLY ENCOURAGING THE EXTERMINATION OF THE LEBANESE PEOPLE, SMOTHERING THEM AS IN A GAS CHAMBER, TURNING THE POISONOUS TOXINS AT FULL BLAST, CLOSING THE DOOR, LOCKING IT, AND WALKING AWAY WITHOUT LOOKING BACK.

THANK YOU FOR THIS NEW WORLD ORDER, THIS NEW MIDDLE EAST.

  • This is Israel's attempt to provoke HA to bomb TelAviv, giving her another alibi to continue with her destruction project. Same tactic over the years.

She has a few days left before the world's inevitable call for truce, and she will make the best out of it.

She is also punishing the Christians for not taking a stronger stand against HA ... This is so retarted!

And they expect us to ever believe in peace with them ...

  • Umm, what war fought with an air force wouldn't be a genocide by your definition?

I can't think of a single war where the two sides didn't attempt to destroy each other's infrastructure.

  • jeffrey, this war is a unilateral war. we all know that israel is militarily much stronger than lebanon. it is israel who decided to start bombing lebanon after HA kidnapped 2 SOLDIERS. i will give this example (again): it's as preposterous as England bombing Ireland entirely if the IRA kidnapped 2 english soldiers.
Not only is this an aerial bombardment of the entire lebanese civilian population, but it is also a severing of the bare necessities (food, water, etc)through a siege by air/land and water. all this done by a country that is much more powerful militarily, and can almost do as it pleases in the region if it were not for a few 'thorns' that stand in its way (ie HA). HA are ready to stop firing rockets at israel if israel stops its bombardments. but it is not, and it is continuing to besiege the entire country. i have never heard of lebanese civilians dying from hunger and thirst before, even during all those years of civil war.
there is a thin line between all these terms - 'terrorism', 'war' and 'genocide'.
even if it is war, remember that not everything is allowed. starving an entire population, letting them die from lack of medical care or electricity or fuel shortage, cannot be shrugged off as 'oh, but that's war'.
that's why we have human rights institutions and amnesty intl. to preserve some semblance of civilisation and humanity even in the most inhumane of circumstances. but israel is clearly violating scores of human rights laws (and had been doing for a long time) with its incessant bombardment and siege on an innocent civilian population.

  • gaea, I agree with most of what you said in your response to Jeffrey. Israel definitely has been and is currently in flagrant violation of anything which would be considered a human right.
However, I do not think HA are preventing Israel from doing "as it pleases" as you said in your response; rather, it is because of HA that Israel is able to act with impunity in destroying the whole country, with the claim that they are after HA.

  • anon you are right; but HA are a mere excuse; you could substitute them with PLO, syria etc etc.
what I am trying to say (and i think you are) is that Israel is intent on unilateral aggression no matter what, and uses flimsy excuses.
i was re-reading Pity the Nation and my god, it is an exact repetition of the 1980's, but now it's HA instead of the PLO.
Left to see if another civil war will erupt as a result of this war and our country's divisions.
    anon, miss u
