the other side -
i sit in my little apartment, once again glued to the internet, opening 5 windows at once to read all the papers at once in all the languages that i know at once, not wanting to miss any flimsy piece of news these days - lebanon news that is. the confrontations have started on the streets, they will continue and escalate in the next few days. i get tachycardic opening the screens of newspapers, awaiting that heart-stopping day when i will open the one screen that shows capslock BOLD scorching headlines of that single fatal shot fired - and the avalanche of self-destruction that will follow. i think of that scene in terminator II when linda hamilton is driving the jeep across the rugged desert, the setting sun huge and red behind her, a determined, grim look on her face as she stares into the future, and we catch grey glimpses of a cold metallic time to come, and there is a note of sadness in her soft voice as she tells her son of impending doom.
are we slaves to the future?
are we slaves to the cycle of history?
do we not rise, learn, and grit our teeth to change?
apparently not.
puppets of our own will we are - we are not puppets to any foreign interference. we are puppets to our own breed of ignorance that begets ignorance.
and the future is nearing, i can hear the cold clicks, taste the torching tyres, smell the acrid fumes of human flesh that will be scorched in the name of ignorance.
we are crossing the line, that thin line. once again. listen.
wise up..
