shots

had an extended repartee (pronounced repartay, please) with a fellow about rampage shootings crime and guns
and he stole my thunder right from the beginning "if i find a stranger in my house, i wanna have a gun" he says softly
and the repart'ay' went on and on in the cafeteria bufferred by my diplomatic probably wiser friend and the tone got louder and louder
by the time i swaggered into understanding that once you hit a wall, you hit a wall, i was fuming and he was, he was smiling less as he munched on the sweet 'tater' pie
that did nothing to absorb his words, unfortunately
people are entitled to their own opinion but..
give men guns and they will shoot each other
that's that.
parting shot from moi 'will always call u before visiting, don't fancy getting shot'
and he's such a pleasant, likeable southern guy, i assure u

  • exactly the same conversation happened to me today! i just do not understand how people can think that making guns legal can be a good thing. there is something majorly wrong with house those people process information into neuronal networking in their brains. yes i'm drunk.

  • It's not the guns ya Docteur Ghouba, it's the people. Who didn't have weapons in lebanon? We had a full automatic machine gun, a couple of hand guns, 3 shotguns, two 9 mm shotguns, one BB gun, and one "dakk". Did we go around shooting everyone around us? no... but dare come to my house to rob me you are F'n dead. I'm licensed to own a gun, and once I buy a house I will own a gun, and it will be the same thing, come to my house and try to do anything bad to me or my family and you're dead. Statistics show that in Canada there are more guns per capita than in the United States. Oh God I don't wanna get into this since it's all in Bowling for Columbine... anyway you get the point. I don't see anything wrong with owning guns, and everyone should be entitled to it... but again... it's the people, and not the guns...

  • umm i disagree. the shooter was a 23 yr old autistic kid. it's not his fault that he's sick. it's the state's fault that it did not protect neither him nor the people around him.

  • there's crazy people everywhere, there's potential murderers everywhere, give them access to guns and they'll kill
now, DGM, i agree that there's something more, in the US, related to some cultural/social upbringing; is it that people are more lonely, less sheltered by their parents, this gun-culture they grow up with, or the mere fact that their own constitution dictates that it can be a right?
    all of the above.
bottomline, though: we can't change their culture/upbringing etc in a flash, it takes generations; so the immediate solution, one would think, would be take away the guns

  • Laila, I didn't say THIS PERSON... I said "the people", better worded by Rouba in her response above. Take away my guns? No way I'm going to agree to that. Make it really really difficult for me to get one? Sure, I'm game...
