american media and what it forgets
amnesty int'l has released a report on august 23rd denouncing israel for war crimes committed in lebanon in this most recent war
click here to see the full report
le monde, the bbc, haaretz, even msnbc mentioned it, but cnn and fox, the most watched newsstations in the US, have not.
i'm not surprised about fox, but cnn??! true, cnn is biased and tends to leave out certain compromising details from big news stories, but to leave out a piece like this?
tom cruise being dumped in the headlines but no amnesty anywhere in sight??
they must really be in the dumpsters of journalism if that's the case (a friend of mine called me abt it today and i double-checked and she's right, unless we both missed it on cnn).
if anyone finds it on cnn pls let me know.
otherwise we should flood them with emails denouncing their unprofessionalism and deliberate withholding of information, stressing that no self-respecting newsstation worth 2 cents would resort to these methods.
tell them that we will tell the whole world (and all our connections) how they conveniently forgot to mention a certain country found guilty of terrible war crimes on certain soil in a certain war.
i've just emailed them.
i urge you to do the same!! click here to get their comment site.
in case this is trashed by their editor, here's what i wrote:
I am a concerned lebanese citizen living in the U.S. and have been scouring all sorts of news-stations recently. I have been sorely disappointed that CNN failed to make any mention of the Amnesty Int'l report released on August 23rd denouncing Israel of war crimes committed in Lebanon during the most recent war. Most other world-wide newspapers and news-stations have reported it as such, including bbc, le monde, al jazeerah and the US-based MSNBC. Why a world-renowned and respected news source like CNN would neglect to mention such a ground-breaking story escapes me and, frankly, does not put it in favorable light. Many people are outraged at this omission and plan to convey this 'forgetfulness' on the part of CNN to as many readers/watchers as they can. I hope you will take notice of this because the news should, in the end of the day, be exactly that. News.
this article in YNet shows how biased CNN is (or rather how it was not biased enough to their liking), which sheds light on why they've acquired selective Alzheimer's now. (thanks Mirvat for finding this article!)

ironic how Amira Hass has just published an article in Haaretz titled "The Occupier Defines Justice". Unfortunately, he (or she, i don't know is Israel is boy or girl) also defines Bias.
thanks for the link, i'll post it.
hey i know i can count in u to spread the word abt the email - this is our way to fight back. thanx mirv.

funny and more of the same
A poor Iraqi named Amin was about o get three years in jail for taking a penis pump through airport security at O'Hare...
Price explains...
"As an anthropologist and Arabic speaker," Price tells "let me call attention to a vital aspect of this story. Simply put, Arabic has no 'Ps' and all native Arabic speakers unvoice their bilabials as 'Bs', thus it is pretty obvious that any native Arabic speaker with an accent would say the word 'pump' as the word 'bumb' --which the poorly-trained and overly paranoid airport security worker mis-heard as 'bomb.'
"As has happened here, with newspapers such as the Chicago Sun Times, news pieces with the words 'penis pump' will generate guffaws from sea to shinning sea, but by not stating what the obvious context of this misunderstanding is, the Sun Times is adding to a dangerous climate of American anti-Arab sentiment."
