Tom Hayden and Jane Fonda stood with israel in the 1982 israeli invasion. now, Hayden revisits those days and explains why now, he's crossed the line with a clear conscience.

The american stance regarding this conflict remains somewhat mystifying to me.

the US said "everybody understands the right of self-defense. That's what Israel's doing. They didn't ask for Hezbollah to come there and kidnap those soldiers, or send rockets into Israel."

How is it self-defense to bomb an entire civilian population (nevermind that many of them do not support Hezbollah), wipe out the painstakingly rebuilt infrastructure of an entire country, uproot half a million persons from their homes, form a siege by land, sea and air and prevent medications, food supplies, and everything else to reach them, kill women and children in buses and buildings, all this performed by a militarily much stronger country in response to the kidnapping of 2 soldiers by a militia that acted independently of the lebanese government and without approval of most of the lebanese population?
Have the higher authorities of the english language decreed a new definition for self-defense, replacing the old word for genocide?

since cnn probably will never publish this i decided to publish it on my own blog.
