docteur monsieur le M leans over during our exciting noon conference, adopts a serious expression and solemnly whispers he had a question for me.

Dr le M: 'i've been thinking about this for days...but i still have no answer...maybe you can help me..'

me in between yawns, slightly alarmed: 'what????'

le M: 'i've racked my brains and i can't find it..ouff, tell me, what is the french word for nerd?'

me, his smug confidante, basking in the glow of my superior frenchiosity: 'ummmm, let's see, it's..nooo, not quite, ummmm, it's..it's..ouffff le M let me think about it, it's too distracting in here'

i quit the lecture and step into my office (the residents' lounge which is now MINE) and google the french nerd...5 dictionaries later and still
'english word NERD has no french match '

i tried geek.
again, 'english word GEEK has no french match'

as a last resort i entered the word dork...
and...ladies and gents...the french equivalent of an english dork is.......none other than......PAUVRE TYPE!!!!!
